DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME

This evening we begin our Easter Triduum as we celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper which will be broadcast on RTE at 16.40.  On the night before he died Jesus showed us the depth of his love for us.  At the Last Supper we are given the gift of the abiding presence of the Lord.  Everytime we celebrate the Eucharist we are nourished by the Bread of Life and drawn into deep communion with the Lord and with each other. During these days when we are physically apart we have grown deeper into the mystery of our spiritual communion with the Lord, and the communion we have with each other that breaks through our isolation.

Jesus washed the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper.  He asks them to reflect on what he is doing and to follow his example of humble, loving service.

The call to service is at the very heart of our celebration of the Eucharist.

In our prayer today, let's remember with deep gratitude the heroic service we are experiencing in the response to the current crisis.  May God bless and protect Medical, Emergency, frontline staff in all services, all those working in hospitals, nursing homes and in our community.  We thank God for the loving service we experience in acts of kindness.

As we celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper we carry all who are sick, suffering and grieving.  We remain in communion with all our sisters and brothers, remembering those who are vulnerable in emergency accommodation, in prison, in isolation.  We pray that as we grow deeper in communion with the Lord and with each other, we will live more fully as the Body of Christ.
